Laura was born and raised on the coast of South Carolina, where summers were marked by long beach days, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches wrapped in foil, and hours spent with her mom, aunts, and cousins searching for shark teeth or playing mermaids in tide pools. From an early age, she developed a love for the outdoors, the ocean, and clothing.
After earning her degree in Fashion Merchandising, Laura moved to New York City, inspired by dreams of a career in fashion. Though she loved the energy of the city, she soon realized she didn’t quite fit into the traditional fashion industry. She later married her best friend and moved to Austin, Texas, at the height of the “Keep Austin Weird” era. There, she discovered mountain biking and rock climbing and found her perfect role as a buyer for Whole Earth Provision Co. Laura and her family spent a decade in Texas, growing together and savoring the lifestyle but eventually, the ocean called.
That call led them to Ventura, California, where Laura joined an iconic outdoor brand. Over more than a decade, she built women’s outdoor lifestyle apparel while also contributing to the women’s surf team. Though she had always felt connected to the ocean, it was through designing swimwear that she fell in love with surfing. What once felt like a sport reserved for the “cool kids” suddenly became her own space for growth and joy. Surfing fit naturally into her life, allowing her to stay close to family while deepening her connection to the sea.
Laura began surfing and building swimwear in 2013, an experience that taught her as much from the athletes she worked with as from the waves themselves. She became fascinated with the challenge of creating suits that stayed put especially as she learned firsthand what it felt like to tumble in the whitewash. Her respect for women in the water only grew, along with her sense of connection to a global community of water women.
Today, while her family is rooted in Ventura, Laura holds a deep love for her South Carolina home. Coastal Range is both a reflection of these two coasts and the culmination of her career: decades of experience in sustainable, ethically made apparel combined with a lifetime of connection to the ocean.
Through Coastal Range, Laura creates apparel that is functional, classic, elegant, and refined. She believes in the power of a small capsule wardrobe; pieces built with care and designed to last. More than a brand, Coastal Range is her way of building community, sharing inspiration, and celebrating the timeless connection between women and water.
