From Dream to Driftwater: The Story Behind Our Fleece Collection

When I decided to bring Coastal Range from a dream into reality, I started by imagining what a true coastal capsule wardrobe should look like. Swim and sweats immediately came to mind — two essentials for life by the water. As a California girl who spends two-thirds of the year bundled up before and after surf sessions, I knew exactly what I wanted to create.

Los Angeles has long been known for its denim and fleece, and I wanted to take everything I’ve learned from over a decade in product line direction to make the best version of that fleece — for all the women changing in parking lots, peeling off wetsuits, and pulling on something warm and familiar.

From the start, I knew the fabric had to balance comfort, performance, and sustainability. I wanted a blend that brought cotton and polyester to their highest potential — breathable yet quick-drying, soft yet durable. The fabric had to feel amazing when pulled on after a cold surf: the fit need to be relaxed but not sloppy, easy to layer without dragging or drooping.

To perfect the design, I partnered with my longtime friend and expert designer Kourtney Morgan — the “Queen of Fleece,” who built the fleece business for Patagonia from the ground up. After years of working together on women’s fleece, we were both charting our own paths, and it felt natural to team up again — this time for ourselves.

Together, we created functional, timeless, and beautifully made fleece pieces that are built to last. We added drop shoulders, open sleeves, and a deep hood for ultimate coziness, and subtle details like brass zippers and gold-tipped drawcords to bring a touch of femininity and craftsmanship to each piece.

While we were refining the design, I worked closely with our Los Angeles knitting mill to get the fabric just right. Building a sustainable, local product as a small brand is no easy feat — the supply chain is limited, and the buying power that drives large-scale change simply isn’t there. But we were determined.

Eventually, we found an incredible yarn made from 50% organic cotton and 50% recycled polyester, knitted into a premium 3-end high-loft fleece. When the final rolls arrived, I couldn’t believe how soft and plush it was — truly like wearing a hug. This fabric exceeded every expectation.

The Driftwater Collection is the result of that journey — made responsibly in Los Angeles, crafted with care, and designed for the women who live in rhythm with the water. Our first run is limited, and the product won’t last long.

I hope you love what we’ve created as much as we do.
